Support for Christopher’s Law: Improving Blood Clot Prevention in Nevada

I am writing to urge you to introduce "Christopher’s Law"—a blood clot prevention act—in the upcoming legislative cycle. Every year, preventable pulmonary embolisms (PE) claim the lives of Nevadans due to a lack of standardized screening and follow-up care. This issue is deeply personal. Christopher Long was a vibrant 24-year-old Nevadan who was taken from his family far too soon. Despite having a known history and being prescribed blood thinners, a critical lack of medical follow-up and monitoring allowed a preventable clot to become fatal. Christopher's story highlights a dangerous gap in our current healthcare system where high-risk patients are not consistently tracked or screened. Modeled after the successful Emily Adkins Prevention Act, Christopher’s Law would require Nevada hospitals to implement mandatory risk-assessment protocols and report PE-related data to a state registry. By standardizing the follow-up process and using data to identify gaps in care, we can ensure that no other Nevada family suffers the same preventable tragedy.
