Trump’s plan to federalize National Guard troops and send them to Los Angeles to put down protests, and potentially protesters, is abhorrent. It is also illegal, prohibited by the Posse Comitatus Act. In case you have forgotten, that act forbids the use of the military for domestic law enforcement. That would include NG troops if they are federalized.
This is the same President, I will remind you, who cheered on rioters attacking the U.S. Capitol and injuring law enforcement officers when it suited his purposes. He has even gone so far as to pardon them.
At what point are you going rein in this madman? Are you going to allow him to send U.S. troops against U.S. citizens exercising their Constitutional rights? Are you going to stand by silently as the Secretary of Defense threatens to send U.S. Marines to Los Angeles? Are you that eager to see another Kent State, or worse?
Protest is legal in this country. This country was founded and built on protest. If Trump can’t handle that, then he needs to resign and vacate the White House. And you need to start standing up for the Constitution you claim to love. Or are you going to stand by and allow him to create a police state where we are governed not by laws but by a tyrant’s fragile ego and unhinged ravings?
We just marked the 81st anniversary of D-Day and the beginning of the liberation of Europe from Nazi tyranny by, among others, U.S. troops. Now Trump wants to use troops in the service of his tyranny. This is intolerable.
Stop this. Stand up to him. Prove you truly understand and revere the Constitution. DO YOUR DAMNED JOB.
