Today I take pen in hand to write and strongly urge support for Senate Resolution 68, which calls for no deployment of United States troops to participate in any non-UN sanctioned international force in Gaza.
As you know, the Executive Branch does not have unilateral power to use our troops as he sees fit.
In other words, we must disallow US Troops as an occupation force in Gaza or adjacent regions. If Trump is allowed to do this, it would:
1. Damage relations with US partners across the entire region
2. Validate the Iranian regime’s ugly rhetoric
3. Raise the threat level of terrorism
4. Would be blatantly illegal and impeachable
Further involvement of US military personnel in Gaza would be inconsistent with the policy and national security objectives of the United States, and likely lead to a shooting war that would cost the lives of US personnel.
We must pass this resolution and uphold the constitutional separation of war powers. I urge you to support and vote YES for this resolution to maintain appropriate checks and balances. I look forward to seeing your response and action on S.R. 68. Thank you.
