Reject, Vote NO on Wasteful H.R. 276 Gulf Renaming Bill

Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to oppose H.R. 276 the so-called Gulf of America Bill. The bill is a waste of time, and is a misguided and unnecessary attempt to rebrand the Gulf of Mexico. Renaming this vital body of water would incur substantial costs for updating maps, charts, databases, and countless other materials across government agencies, private businesses, and educational institutions. Just another way the Trump Administration is adding to waste, not cutting waste. These resources would be better directed towards more pressing priorities that tangibly improve people's lives. Furthermore, the Gulf of Mexico is deeply rooted in our shared history and culture, and an arbitrary name change disrespects that heritage. I urge you to reject this wasteful legislation and instead focus on substantive policy issues that create real value for constituents. Scarce taxpayer dollars and congressional time should be dedicated to promoting economic opportunity, protecting the environment, and strengthening our communities. Oppose H.R. 276.
