Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
Pondering while perplexed as to why Republicans in Congress want to just sweep the January 6 Capitol insurrection under the rug.
Deflecting and rewriting history for politics is one thing. But to let such a monumental event slide in order to ‘just move on’ is a dereliction of duty that is incomprehensible. Especially coming from a political party that prides itself on its overweening patriotism.
Let’s just go back to the same tiresome thought exercise, one more time, because it always proves the point.
Suppose Obama had just been voted out of office. Suppose he summoned and then fired up his loyal legions to march on the Capitol to try and overturn the will of the people by brute force. Suppose these same supporters ran rampant through the halls of Congress. Chanting death threats. Attacking Capitol police. Wanting to lynch his own Vice-President. All the while displaying their fealty to him with chants, banners, flags. Believing they were carrying out his wishes.
How would the Republicans in Congress be reacting? Think there would be the same desire to just move on?
The American people see what is going on. This stain on our country cannot be just covered over, discounted, and made light of. And even lied about by the same members of Congress who, there is no doubt, feared for their lives on that day. To do so, to even attempt to do so, is the ultimate betrayal of your oath to protect the country you serve.
You should do the right thing. Give the country some closure. And save your souls at the same time.
Actions speak louder than words. Let your actions show you actually do care about Democracy. Please.
