How many days in a row has it been of Israel bombing the Nuseirat refugee camp? Today, 7/15, I've truly lost count. It's been one ongoing slaughter of displaced people in schools, mosques - anywhere with a modicum of shelter. I learned yesterday, after the UNRWA Abu Oreiban School bombing, the survivors went to a mosque to pray. Israel then bombed that mosque. One of the survivors describing the immediate aftermath, a woman covered in blood gave her testimony to the press. The fear and pain in her eyes is palpable. It was an absolute massacre. The attacks on the Al-Mawasi refugee camp yesterday killed and wounded over 400. The number of those murdered and injured continues to rise as there hasn't been a real moment of respite between Israeli aerial bombardments.
The areas Israeli forces finally leave are found littered with decomposed bodies. When they left the streets of Tal al-Hawa yesterday, the magnitude of death was clear. I can't unsee the bodies. Every day when I think I've surely seen the absolute worst, I continue to be shocked and disgusted at Israel's actions. Early last month during the refugee tent camp massacre in the Tal al-Sultan area of Rafah where people were burned alive, I saw a father, Abdul Hafez, carrying the dead body of his infant son, Ahmad Al-Najar, without a head. The force of the 2,000-5,000 pound bombs you've given Israel will decapitate and dismember people. "Bunker busters" are being used on literal tents - maximizing the horrific destruction. It's happened again, at least the next time I'm aware of and has been documented. This time it was a brother carrying the limp body of his sister missing half of her skull after the bombardment of the Nuseirat refugee camp last week. Children carrying the bodies of children. The level of trauma is unfathomable.
It's not enough this administration recently decided to stop shipping the 2,000+ pound bombs. They already have them. The 500 pound bombs you're still approving, when dropped on literal tents, will still burn people alive and dismember them. This past week has shown, once again, this is what Israel uses the bombs you give them for.
I demand that you:
– Hold Israel accountable for a permanent, immediate ceasefire, their violations of the Genocide Convention, and gross human rights violations by any means necessary
– Call for the immediate end of Israel’s occupation and apartheid and support Palestinians in their fight for freedom and peace
– Secure the immediate release and safety of all Palestinians who have been abducted and held captive by Israel, including those whose indefinite detention began prior to 10/7
