congress Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to reverse the rollback of a Clean Air Act regulation via the Congressional Review Act.
The resolution passed by Congress, first by the Senate, and then by the House just recently is a damaging one to roll back regulations on toxic air pollutants under the Clean Air Act.
This decision represents an historic and dangerous rollback of crucial environmental protections that safeguard public health that were put into place decades ago.
The provision, also known the "once in, always in" policy aimed to strictly limit emissions of highly hazardous pollutants like mercury, lead, and dioxins from major industrial facilities. As we know, these toxic substances are linked to severe health risks such as cancer, neurological damage, and birth defects, even at low exposure levels.
Allowing facilities to reclassify and escape stringent emission limits could lead to increased pollution levels in surrounding communities. It’s virtually certain that it will disproportionately impact areas with concentrated industrial activity.
Protecting public health and adhering to science-based regulations must be the priority. I implore you to reject this harmful resolution, and to use the procedures of the Congressional Review Act and force a vote.
E everyone in Congress must uphold their oath, and that means to uphold strong environmental standards that shield vulnerable populations from dangerous air toxins.
Thank you for your attention to this matter of health and safety for all communities. Rverse the Rollback via the CRA. Thank you.
