Vote NO on the Real Climate Emergency Act

Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to reject and vote NO on Senator Shelly Capitos bill the Real Climate Emergency Act. Her bill and probable companion bill in the House is a willfully ignorant attempt to prevent President Biden from declaring a climate emergency to take action on several key executive powers. These would include provisions of the National Emergencies Act, the Stanford Act and section 319 of the Public Health Service Act. The public denial by literally all Republicans that there’s a growing climate crisis is dangerous and foolish. Their own constituents are often the ones that need money and help in a crisis. But if they don’t think there’s a climate emergency then why are they so worried about the Presidents power to move us forward on clean energy, and making people more aware that we’re going to have to take the hard steps to decarbonize our economy on many fronts. You’d think, coming from a state that remains woefully poor and going nowhere economically, that Senator Capito would instead embrace the chance to seize the day and rescue her fellow West Virginians by moving ahead on things that will bring new jobs to the pitiful few coal miners left. But she won’t and this bill is another indication that they are not working for people, only for a dying industry. She deserves only excoriation for putting profits above health and progress. There’s caution and prudence that’s sometimes needed. This is not that time. They’ve tried this kind of bill before. Vote NO. By the way, get the actual Climate Emergency Declaration bill introduced in the last Congress moving again. Thank you.
