An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Subject: Iowans Deserve Protection from Predatory Bank Fees!

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I’m writing to express my strong opposition to the recent vote to repeal the cap on bank overdraft fees and to urge you to reject any further attempts to block the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s $8 cap on credit card late fees. Senator Ernst and Senator Grassley—your support for lifting the overdraft fee cap is a clear signal that you’re standing with big banks and credit card companies rather than with the working Iowans who are being crushed by these junk fees. These charges hit hardest when people can least afford them. They’re not “market forces”—they’re corporate price-gouging. Representative Nunn, your position on this issue will matter. I urge you to break from this trend and stand with your constituents, not the banking lobby. Iowa families need real consumer protection—not more handouts for financial institutions. These fees are not just unpopular—they’re predatory. And supporting them makes it very clear who you’re working for. I’m calling on all three of you to publicly support the CFPB’s rule, oppose efforts to strip away financial safeguards, and stop backing policies that punish ordinary Iowans for being poor . I—and many others—will be watching your next votes closely.
