As of this morning, the U.S. State Department quietly updated its public guidance to say: “A passport is valid for travel until its date of expiration, until you replace it, or until we invalidate it under federal regulations.” This language appears on the State Department’s “Sex Marker in Passports” page and represents a shift from prior wording that reassured holders their documents would remain valid until expiration.
