Increase FEMA Funding to Address Growing Disaster Threats

Staffing cuts, hiring freezes, and budget rollbacks have hollowed out FEMA. I urge you to oppose any cuts to FEMA funding and instead advocate for increased resources for the agency. FEMA has failed to adequately respond to recent catastrophes demonstrating its lack of the resources and staffing necessary to fulfill its critical mission of coordinating disaster response and helping communities recover.
The reality is that disasters are growing larger and more costly every year. Climate-related extreme weather events are increasing in frequency and severity, placing unprecedented demands on our emergency management systems. Communities across the country depend on FEMA to coordinate federal disaster response, provide emergency supplies, assist with temporary housing, and support long-term recovery efforts. Without adequate funding, the agency cannot meet these essential responsibilities.
Cutting FEMA's budget during this period of escalating disaster threats would be catastrophic for American communities. Instead, Congress must recognize the growing scale of these emergencies and provide FEMA with the resources it needs to protect lives and property. Congress must then provide strict oversight to ensure that the funds are spent as intended.
I urge you to publicly oppose any proposed cuts to FEMA funding and to advocate for increased appropriations that reflect the true scope of disaster threats facing our nation. Communities in your district and across the country are counting on effective federal disaster response. Please ensure FEMA has the resources necessary to fulfill this vital mission.
