An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Stop Erasing History and Hiding American Achievements - Bring Back DEI

24 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

The revocation and banning of Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion (DEI) by the current administration is a targeted attack by white men on all other members of the population because they're seemingly tired of having to acknowledge other people having accomplishments and skills. Do you know why was DEI implemented? It's because white men were being hired over qualified candidates. They banned DEI and then immediately fired a qualified black man, General Brown, and replaced him with a white man so unqualified he needed a waiver and special approval. They said no more DEI and then quietly removed the requirement for federal contractors to have non segregated facilities. They said no more DEI and used that as an excuse to erase the history of the Navajo Code Talkers, black Medal of Honor winners, trans people's impact on Stonewall and I'm sure countless other non white accomplishments that have flown under the radar. Say what you mean if you're going to do all this: you're disappointed other people besides you have anything and you've been mad since the 1964 civil rights act. The current administration is mad any non-white or non-male person might be better at anything and has to punch down to keep themselves feeling special. The history of America is diverse. The inventions and ingenuity and research and achievements that America is so proud of are diverse. A good society is equitable. They focus on helping ALL people, not just those that look like them. A democracy is inclusive, allowing all people to vote and be represented. Which of these do you not want for America? You want to get rid of diversity, which strengthens our society? You want to get rid of equity, which supports the people? You want to get rid of inclusion, a core basis of democracy? Say what you mean, don't lie and pretend that DEI was inefficient or unfair or whatever you want to hide behind; if you want to ban DEI, be brave enough to say you want to ban civil rights and you want to go back to being openly racist again. If you're not that far gone, if you understand that Americas strength is in its people, all its people, then stop the attack on DEI now. Stand up for what is right. Stop erasing history just because it was made by a non-white or non-male person. Stop firing anyone who's not white and male and replacing them with less qualified people. DEI sought to take away barriers in front of minorities that have existed for years, and there was still work to be done. Stop sliding backwards. Bring back DEI.
