The administration's hardline stance against undocumented migrants stands in stark contrast to the welcoming message inscribed on the Statue of Liberty - "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." This multi-million dollar campaign paints all undocumented individuals as "criminals" and threatens deportation, abandoning America's legacy as a nation of immigrants. Rather than instilling fear, humane immigration policies focused on integration and earned pathways to citizenship would better uphold our democratic ideals of human rights and human dignity. Aggressive anti-immigrant rhetoric and enforcement only breed further discrimination and marginalization within our communities. An evidence-based approach balancing border security with compassion is urgently needed.
