Texas: Stop Targeting Women, LGBTQ+, Public Schools — It’s Harmful to Our State

You often claim to work for all Texans. But your actions tell a different story. Your relentless targeting of LGBTQ+ Texans—especially trans youth—has made our state a national symbol of cruelty. Over 80 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been filed this session alone, many focused on schools and public life (Dallas Morning News, March 2025). These laws don’t protect children; they punish them. They don’t reflect Texas values; they betray them. Your school voucher scheme is another example. Texans already have school choice. Vouchers just siphon public dollars into private institutions, weakening the schools that serve most families. It’s a scam that benefits the few at the expense of the many. Meanwhile, your abortion bans have turned Texas into a state where women fear for their lives. Maternal deaths have risen 56% since the bans took effect, even as they declined nationally (ProPublica, February 2025). Doctors are leaving. Women are suffering. This isn’t pro-life; it’s anti-health. And the economic consequences are real. Businesses are pulling conferences. Companies are rethinking investments. Texas is becoming known not for innovation, but for intolerance (Austin LGBT Chamber, March 2025). Republicans once stood for limited government. Now, under your leadership, the state intrudes into bedrooms, classrooms, and doctor’s offices. This isn’t freedom. It’s authoritarianism. We demand better.
