Oppose the SAVE America Act and Withdraw Sponsorship

I am writing to urge you to oppose the SAVE America Act and, if you are currently a sponsor, to immediately withdraw your support for this legislation. This bill represents a dangerous step backward for voting rights in America, not the protection of democracy its name suggests. The SAVE America Act would impose new barriers to voting by requiring proof of citizenship and photo ID for all voters. These requirements disproportionately impact eligible American citizens who lack easy access to the specific documents this bill would mandate. Millions of Americans, including elderly citizens born before hospital births were standard, low-income individuals who cannot afford document fees, and people with disabilities who face transportation challenges, would find it significantly harder to exercise their constitutional right to vote. President Trump has announced he will not sign any bills until Congress passes this legislation, calling it something that "must be done immediately" and "supersedes everything else." This ultimatum should concern anyone who values the legislative process and the urgent needs of constituents. Holding critical legislation hostage to pass a bill that restricts voting access is not governing in good faith. The evidence does not support the premise behind this bill. Study after study has shown that voter fraud is extraordinarily rare in the United States. What this legislation would accomplish is making it harder for eligible citizens to participate in our democracy. When we erect unnecessary obstacles to voting, we weaken the foundation of representative government itself. I ask that you publicly oppose the SAVE America Act and remove your name from any sponsorship of this bill. Our democracy is strengthened when more eligible citizens can participate, not when we create new hurdles that prevent Americans from voting. Please stand on the side of voting rights and reject this legislation.
