An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Block the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Oil and Gas Lease Sale

366 so far! Help us get to 500 signers!

Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to block the Trump Department of the Interior's oil and gas lease sale in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The Coastal Plain is 1.5 million acres of irreplaceable wilderness — drilling there would devastate the wildlife that sustains the Gwich'in people and permanently destroy the last truly wild place in this country. That’s not a trade worth making. Furthermore, past lease sales in the Arctic Refuge have already failed because the area simply isn't economically viable for drilling. Renewable energy - wind-water-solar is the future that preserves these spaces for all time. More extraction won't lower energy costs — those costs are a direct result of this administration's own policies and illegal wars. What this lease sale actually does is hand over public lands to Big Oil while canceling the clean energy projects that would deliver real, lasting relief to American families. Stand against this giveaway and protect the Arctic Refuge. Block this action. Thank you.
