An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Defend independent oversight; investigate inspector general dismissals

I strongly object to the reported firing of at least 12 inspectors general by President Trump. Inspectors general play a vital role as independent watchdogs, rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse within federal agencies. Their dismissal without proper notice or justification undermines checks and balances, enabling corruption to spread unchecked. This purge appears to be an attempt to eliminate oversight and consolidate power, which goes against democratic principles of accountability. I urge you to investigate these dismissals thoroughly and take action to uphold the law requiring 30 days' notice to Congress with legitimate reasons provided. Inspectors general must be able to do their jobs free from political retaliation or interference. Their independence is crucial for maintaining integrity in government. I request that you defend this important system of checks and balances.
