The US must be an ally to Ukraine

I am writing with grave concern about former President Trump’s continued refusal to stand firmly with Ukraine in its defense against Russia’s brutal, unprovoked invasion. Time and time again, Trump has chosen to echo Kremlin talking points, undermine international ceasefire efforts, and suggest that Ukraine should simply concede to Russia’s demands. This is not just dangerous—it is reckless and un-American. Let us be absolutely clear: Russia is 100% guilty. Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia continues to commit war crimes. Russia breaks ceasefire agreements again and again, lying to the international community at every turn. Ukraine is not the aggressor. Ukraine is defending its sovereignty, its borders, and its people against a hostile and lawless neighbor. So why does Trump keep doing what Vladimir Putin wants? Why does he make excuses for Russia, a government that has proven itself to be deceitful, violent, and destabilizing to the entire world order? His posture toward Ukraine is not just weak—it is dangerous to America’s credibility, our alliances, and our very democracy. The United States has always stood as a beacon of freedom and a defender of democracy. If we abandon Ukraine now, what message does that send to NATO, to the European Union, to the rest of our allies across the globe? Why should they stand with us if we are unwilling to stand with them? If this continues, America will be seen not as a leader of the free world, but as a not-so-secret Russian asset. Congress must act. Do not allow Trump’s pro-Putin rhetoric to dictate U.S. foreign policy. Do not let Russia’s lies become normalized. Do not let the sacrifices of the Ukrainian people, who are fighting not only for their own country but for the principles of freedom and sovereignty worldwide, be in vain. America is stronger when we stand on the side of truth, justice, and democracy. Russia invaded. Ukraine defends. Anything less than full support for Ukraine is a betrayal of our values and our allies. I urge you to take action now—to reaffirm America’s support for Ukraine, to hold Russia accountable, and to ensure that no American leader is allowed to trade away freedom in exchange for Putin’s approval.
