An open letter to the U.S. Congress

DO SOMETHING- Yet another mass shooting has occurred in the US

11 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I am writing to you today with profound grief, outrage, and urgency. Once again, our nation has been shaken by another mass shooting, this time at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where multiple people were shot and the community was thrown into terror. This tragedy did not occur in isolation — it is part of a horrifying pattern that has defined 2025. According to the most recent data, the United States has experienced nearly 400 mass shootings this year alone — hundreds of events in which four or more people are shot. Over 380 people have been killed and more than 1,700 injured in these incidents as of late November. Every one of these figures represents a life cut short, a family shattered, a community traumatized. We have allowed this crisis to become routine. It is beyond time to stop treating these shootings as isolated tragedies that are merely reported and mourned before the news cycle moves on. They are a systemic failure — a failure of policy, leadership, and moral responsibility. I am demanding that Congress take immediate, decisive action on gun control. It is not enough to offer prayers, investigations, or half-measures. We need laws that: • mandate comprehensive universal background checks on all firearm sales; • ban the sale and civilian possession of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines; • invest in proven violence-prevention programs and mental health services; • enforce safe storage requirements to keep guns out of the hands of those who will harm themselves or others. The status quo is unacceptable. While some reports note a statistical dip in certain types of mass killings this year, gun violence in this country — including mass shootings — remains far higher than in peer nations and continues to steal lives every single day. We cannot wait for the next headline. We cannot be numb any longer. We need meaningful federal legislation that will save lives now. I urge you, on behalf of every American who has been injured or killed, and every family who will face this horror tomorrow if nothing changes: act. Show courage. Pass responsible gun safety laws. Protect your constituents and honor the sanctity of human life.
