Support H.R. 6088 to Prevent $200 Billion in SNAP Cuts

I urge you to support H.R. 6088, the Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act, which would reverse the nearly $200 billion in cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program scheduled to begin next year under H.R. 1. These cuts threaten the food security of 16 million children who currently rely on SNAP to avoid hunger. H.R. 1 would shift SNAP costs to states, requiring them to pay a larger share of benefits with costs ramping up over time. This state cost shift could force difficult choices: reducing benefits, limiting the number of children who receive assistance, or abandoning the program altogether. States simply cannot absorb these costs without devastating consequences for vulnerable families. The evidence is clear that SNAP works. Research shows children who participate in SNAP experience better health outcomes both in childhood and into adulthood, perform better academically with higher graduation rates, and are less likely to experience abuse or maltreatment because a steady food budget reduces household stress. These are not abstract benefits but measurable improvements in children's lives.
