President Trump: Are You a Peacemaker? Stand Down from Nuclear Threats, Now!
33 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!
Mr. Trump,
Today, you wrote on Truth Social, “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.”
These thinly-veiled threats to obliterate Iran with nuclear war are needed because you are failing at negotiation. Your posts make this clear for the world to see! Besides showing ineptitude as a leader, any threats of using nuclear weapons are an indictment of craven soullessness. Have you no shred of conscience?
It is the height of irony that someone who claims to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize is threatening nuclear war as a show of brinksmanship and from a desire to build his personal empire. Do you not see you are proving the Nobel Committee’s point?
Your decision to rebrand the Department of Defense as the Department of War says it all. This move lacks the character of statesmanship. Any leader deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize will always, under any circumstances, hold human rights, human safety, and human dignity as their highest priorities.
That is what true leadership and statesmanship looks like: honoring human dignity, making meaningful contributions to increase human flourishing, and preserving the historic contributions of civilization. As you latest Truth Social posts reveal, these are aims with which you are wholly unfamiliar.
It is clear from your comments about both Iran and Venezuela that access to these sovereign nations’ oil is your primary concern. If you ravage Iran with nuclear bombs, how will anyone be able to extract its oil safely? It will be years (if not decades) before the oil is accessible without the residue of radiation. Your imagined nuclear solution defies logic.
Please, Mr. Trump: take a step outside your bubble of sycophants to listen to the American public. If you had been doing so, you would know this: overwhelmingly, Americans do not approve of ANY of your recent actions of aggression against Iran.
On behalf of my fellow patriotic Americans, I implore you: Stand down from these threats. Leverage the wisdom of experienced negotiators. Find a solution that honors our collective human dignity and our pride as Americans, the standard-bearers of Peace.
If you choose evil, be prepared to be held accountable for your actions by International Law.
