'I am an active-duty member of the United States Air Force, and I will no longer be complicit in genocide. I am about to engage in an extreme act of protest, but compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers, it's not extreme at all.' These and 'Free Palestine' were the last solemn words of Aaron Bushnell, a 25 year old active duty Air Force officer before he set him self ablaze outside the Israeli embassy in D.C. in an act of protest and indictment against the US political establishment.
Aaron Bushnell died Sunday night on February the 25th after succumbing to the injuries of self-immolation, long considered an honorable political act. He is remembered as a gentle soul, a community volunteer and successful military engineer who refused to be complicit in our genocidal campaign against Palestine and gave his life for justice. As my elected representative tasked with protecting American interests at home and abroad, I ask you to reflect on Aaron's tragic sacrifice, to support a path to peace as he wished, and to finally call for an immediate ceasefire, an end to our military aid to Israel and an increase in our humanitarian aid to Gaza. Americans demand an end to the atrocities of this war on Palestine that has taken the lives of tens of thousands of innocent men, women and children and now our respected countryman Aaron Bushnell.
