Support CA SB 627 No Secret Police Act & SB 805 No Vigilantes Act

I am writing you today to please pass SB 805, the No Vigilantes Act, & SB 627, the No Secret Police Act. For months, we’ve watched videos and seen pictures of masked, and allegedly federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents accosting, assaulting, and arresting people, and generally acting like hoodlums and kidnappers - even in federal courthouses. They routinely refuse to communicate or show any form of identification, display their faces and present warrants, and some have been aggravated by attempts to document their actions. This crucial legislation prohibits law enforcement at all levels from concealing their identities by covering their faces or failing to provide proper identification while conducting operations in California. The actions of DHS and ICE agents have deeply eroded public trust in ALL law enforcement because of the alarming use of unidentified, masked officers, agents, and bounty hunters carrying out raids and detentions without transparency or accountability, undermining any illusions of justice and public safety that law enforcement is meant to uphold. Furthermore, the proliferation of masked enforcement activities has enabled dangerous impersonation incidents, putting the public at risk. SB 627, the No Secret Police Act, is a necessary step toward rebuilding that trust and ensuring that all law enforcement operations in our state are conducted with full transparency and accountability. SB 805, the No Vigilantes Act, is crucial to stop police impersonators, increase transparency in law enforcement, and protect communities from vigilante immigration enforcement.
