Lawmakers who participated in the dishonest attempt to overturn the election should face real consequences, starting with censure and removal from committee assignments, up to and including removal from Congress. Legislators who were complicit in the recent coup attempt, however small their role, should be held to account if they supported this dishonest effort to ignore the will of voters.
First person accounts from those who were there, including Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, make clear that we came very close to seeing our Representatives murdered over livestream and that this was aided and abetted by members of Congress themselves.
It is also unacceptable that at least 3 members of Congress have tested positive for COVID after the events of last week, due to their Republican colleagues' refusal to take the most basic protections and wear masks.
There can be no unity until those that would seek to overthrow our democracy face consequences for their actions.
