Addressing the Cobalt Crisis in the DRC: Urgent Reforms Needed

The humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), fueled by the global demand for cobalt, necessitates immediate action. The exploitation of cobalt mines has led to human rights violations, displacement of millions, and environmental degradation. The mining industry is rife with child labor, unsafe working conditions, and corruption. Tech companies' initiatives to avoid purchasing cobalt from small-scale mining companies are insufficient. The situation calls for comprehensive reform of the mining industry, eradication of child labor, and poverty alleviation. We urge you to advocate for policies that ensure regulated working environments and address systemic exploitation in the DRC. The quest for cobalt should not come at the cost of human dignity and environmental integrity.
