A Call to Action: Protect the Fundamental Right of All Americans to Vote
31 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!
I am writing to urge you to take immediate legislative action to protect the most essential right of our citizenship: the right to vote.
Recent judicial developments, culminating in the decision in Louisiana v. Callais, have created an environment where the franchise for millions of Americans is being systematically undermined. When the Supreme Court narrows the protections of the Voting Rights Act, it creates a barrier between the American people and their ability to influence the government.
The right to vote is the "right preservative of all other rights." It is the mechanism through which every citizen—regardless of background, race, or geography—holds their government accountable. When this right is diluted or made inaccessible, the very foundation of our representative democracy is compromised.
The current state of our voting laws is no longer a matter of partisan debate; it is a matter of national integrity. I am calling on you to:
- Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act: We must restore the federal government’s ability to prevent discriminatory practices before they take root.
- Establish Clear Federal Standards: Congress must ensure that the "results test" is protected, so that all Americans can be confident that their vote carries equal weight.
- Defend the Franchise as a Non-Negotiable Right: Use your platform to affirm that the right to vote is a fundamental American value that must be shielded from judicial or legislative erosion.
The legitimacy of our government rests entirely on the consent of the governed. I ask you to act now to ensure that every American can exercise their right to vote freely, fairly, and without interference.
I look forward to hearing about the steps you are taking to defend the franchise for all your constituents.
