I am writing as your constituent to demand three things: that you publicly correct President Trump’s false claims about vote-by-mail, that you oppose any effort to restrict Americans’ right to vote by mail, and that you go on record committing to protect scheduled elections — no cancellations, no delays, for any reason.
The facts on vote-by-mail are not in dispute. The Brookings Institution found fraud occurs in just 0.000043% of mail ballots — roughly four cases per ten million. Even the conservative Heritage Foundation’s own database required 19 years of Oregon election data to find just 15 cases of mail fraud — less than one per year. The Associated Press surveyed election officials in both Republican- and Democrat-run states and found zero cases of fraud with mail ballot drop boxes in 2020. Research from MIT’s Election Lab confirms vote-by-mail modestly increases participation without favoring either party. Arizona’s vote-by-mail system was designed by Republicans and is now used by 80% of that state’s voters.
Despite this, President Trump signed an executive order on March 31, 2026 targeting mail-in voting — repeating the same baseless claims that have been rejected by courts, audits, and election officials across the country, including members of his own party. Election law experts have already called this order unconstitutional on its face, and federal courts have previously blocked similar attempts. The Constitution is clear: election administration belongs to the states, not the president.
I also want to be direct about elections themselves. This country held elections during the Civil War, both World Wars, and a global pandemic. There is no emergency that justifies canceling or delaying a federal election. I expect you to say so — loudly and publicly.
Silence from elected officials enables this assault on democracy. I urge you to stand up, speak the truth, and protect every American’s right to vote.
