An open letter to the U.S. Congress

WHEN DOES THE SUCCESS STORY START?

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

What have the past few months of chaos actually produced for America? Ed Martin, of the “Weaponization Working Group,” (LOL. Too true) in the DOJ secretly seeded stories attacking a judge. He has appeared more than 150 times on Russian state media outlets that the State Dept. said were “critical elements in Russia’s disinformation and propaganda ecosystem.” Now he is vowing to investigate Democrats and anyone who criticizes the administration. Will the info harvested by DOGE mining of US government records be used to enact this retribution? Trump vowed that tariffs would launch a new golden era in the US, but his constant monkeying with rates has created deep uncertainty in the economy. And raise concerns that at least some of his words are designed to manipulate the market. Trump insisted that countries would come begging to negotiate, but now says “It’s not possible to meet the number of people that want to see us.” Instead he announced he will set new rates himself. Republicans are trying to push Trump’s “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” through Congress. It would extend Trump’s tax cuts at a cost to the nation of about $4.6T over ten years. At the same time, it cut Medicaid, SNAP and a slew of other assistance programs. Not happening so far because certain House members want even more misery inflicted in the name of fiscal responsibility. (How’s the planning going for Trump’s BD military extravaganza?) Citing the by now chronic dysfunction of DC and uncertain outlook for the economy, Moody’s downgraded our credit from AAA to AA1. The “Department of Government Efficiency” (LOL. Again) has also claimed to be slashing “waste, fraud, and abuse” from government programs, but where are the actual savings? Instead the cuts are to programs that help ordinary Americans. While moving money upward to the wealthy. Cuts of 31% to the enforcement wing of the IRS will cost money. Tax evasion among the top 10% of earners costs about $700B a year. Implementing Project 2025 decimated the federal government as intended. It talks about traumatizing federal workers. But the cuts have also traumatized Americans who depend on the programs that DOGE tried to cut. Cuts to USAID meant about $2B less in contracts for American farmers. And close to $100M worth of food that could feed 3.5M people rots in government warehouses. Cuts to the FAA have left airports without enough air traffic controllers. Two 90-second blackouts at Newark International Airport caused air traffic controllers to lose control with airplanes. Air traffic controllers at Denver International Airport lost contact with planes for 2 minutes. Cuts to a program that funds healthcare of first responders and survivors of 9/11 are leaving thousands of patients unsure if their cancer treatment will continue. FEMA announced to staff that it is not prepared for hurricane season, and will work to return responsibility for the response to emergencies to the states. Have we redefined success?
