An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Texas only)
DO NOT GERRYMANDER TEXAS!!!
2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am writing as a proud Texan deeply concerned about the practice of gerrymandering in our state. When political maps are drawn to protect those in power instead of representing the people, the very foundation of our democracy is weakened.
Gerrymandering undermines the principle of fair representation by allowing politicians to choose their voters instead of voters choosing their representatives. It silences communities, particularly communities of color, dilutes local voices, and discourages healthy competition. In Texas, this has created districts that do not reflect our state’s rich diversity or the true will of its people.
The harm goes beyond politics—it erodes public trust. When voters believe elections are rigged in advance, they disengage, and civic participation declines. That’s not the Texas way. Our history and values demand a government that is accountable, transparent, and truly representative of all Texans, regardless of party or geography.
We need independent, nonpartisan redistricting to ensure fair maps that reflect communities, not political interests. Every Texan should have confidence that their vote matters equally, whether they live in a rural town, a growing suburb, or a major city.
Texas is stronger when we all have a voice. Gerrymandering weakens that strength and divides us. I urge you to reject any maps drawn for partisan gain and work toward reforms that put the people of Texas first.
