An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Reject AIPAC Money. Hold Israel Accountable for Attacking Diplomats

Israel has crossed yet another red line that should have sent shockwaves through the international community—and through Congress. On Wednesday 5/21, Israeli forces opened fire on a clearly marked diplomatic convoy in the occupied West Bank. This was not a mistake. This was not confusion in combat. This was a brazen assault on a delegation of ambassadors and diplomats from over two dozen countries, including U.S. allies like the UK, France, Germany, Canada, Italy, and the EU. These diplomats were on a coordinated visit to the Jenin refugee camp to witness the devastation Israel has inflicted—dozens killed, 20,000 displaced, more than 150 homes destroyed. And how did Israel respond? With its signature contempt for accountability: it “regrets the inconvenience.” Let’s be clear—this was a direct violation of the Vienna Convention. Shooting at diplomats is not an “inconvenience.” It’s an international crime. While governments around the world have condemned the attack and summoned Israeli ambassadors, the United States remains conspicuously silent. Why? Because our political system is bought. Because members of Congress have been bought. AIPAC and its network of pro-Israel lobby groups have spent millions to ensure near-total control over U.S. foreign policy. They poured money into over 80 percent of congressional races in 2024 alone, demanding absolute loyalty to Israel—even as it commits genocide in Gaza, ethnically cleanses the West Bank, and now fires on diplomatic envoys. This is not diplomacy. This is complicity. It is far past time for you and your colleagues to reject AIPAC money and all influence from Israeli lobby organizations. You are not elected to serve a foreign government. You are elected to serve your constituents—and the values of human rights, international law, and basic decency. If Israel can shoot at international diplomats with impunity, no one is safe. And if the U.S. won’t stand up even for its allies, what moral standing do we have left? Do your job. Demand accountability. End all military aid to Israel. Sanction Israeli officials. And for once, stand on the side of the law—not the lobby.
