Today, the House of Representatives took a historic, bipartisan stand for the Constitution by passing a War Powers Resolution to end unauthorized U.S. military hostilities in Iran. Constitutional conservatives joined forces with Democrats to declare that the Executive branch cannot wage an undeclared war without congressional approval.
The House has done its job. The question now is: where does the Senate stand?
The April ceasefire is failing, and the conflict is expanding. Just today, fresh drone strikes hit civilian infrastructure and an airport in Kuwait. The administration's strategy of open-ended conflict without a clear mission has failed, disrupting global energy security and draining vital taxpayer resources.
You can no longer hide behind the excuse of a divided Congress. The House has signaled that the status quo is unacceptable. I am calling on you to:
1. Bring the War Powers Resolution to the Senate floor immediately for an open vote.
2. Stop deferring to the Executive branch on military campaigns that lack explicit congressional authorization under Article I of the Constitution.
3. Vote to reclaim your constitutional authority and force an end to these unauthorized hostilities.
Defending the Constitution is not a partisan issue. Will you match the political courage shown in the House, or will you remain complicit in a widening, unauthorized war?
