An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Utah only)

Reject SB337, protect local control and democratic accountability

18 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

SB337 raises alarming concerns about government overreach and erosion of local control. Creating a powerful new state agency with broad authority over land use, bonding, and taxation for major development projects across Utah seems like an unsettling consolidation of power. While the goals of coordinating economic development and affordable housing are understandable, SB337 goes too far in stripping away local decision-making by municipalities and counties. This top-down approach dismisses the important role of elected local officials in representing their communities' interests. I urge you to reject SB337 and instead pursue solutions that empower local governments and respect principles of local self-governance. Robust public oversight and accountability mechanisms should be prioritized over centralizing so much unchecked power in an unelected state agency. Please stand up for democratic values and local control by voting no on this consequential bill.
