G7 U.S. Policy on Russia and Ukraine—Whose Side Are We On?
2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am writing to express serious concerns about recent actions by the U.S. government that appear to weaken sanctions enforcement against Russia, alongside troubling reports that Russian state TV is openly promoting comments made by VP Vance suggesting a shift in our stance toward Ukraine.
Reports indicate that the U.S. vetoed a Canadian-led G7 proposal to create a task force targeting Russia’s shadow fleet of oil tankers, which Moscow is using to bypass sanctions and fund its war in Ukraine. Furthermore, the U.S. has been pushing to soften language in G7 statements—removing references to sanctions and even reframing Russia’s war financing as merely “earning revenue.”
At the same time, Russian state media is widely airing a Fox interview with VP J.D. Vance, in which he suggests that the U.S. is supporting Russia over Ukraine. This is deeply concerning and raises pressing questions:
1. Why is Russian state TV highlighting a U.S. Vice President’s comments as evidence that America is backing Russia?
2. Why is the administration weakening its stance on sanctions enforcement?
3. What message does this send to our allies, particularly those on the front lines of Russian aggression?
4. Are the long-standing rumors about Trump’s financial ties to Russia or Russian political support influencing U.S. policy decisions?
For years, speculation has swirled about Trump’s connections to Russia, and these recent actions—undermining sanctions while allowing officials like Vance to publicly suggest we’re taking Russia’s side—only fuel those concerns. If the administration is no longer fully supporting Ukraine, the American people deserve to know why.
So I ask plainly: Whose side is the United States on? Is our government standing with our democratic allies, or is it enabling Russia’s war machine? The American people and our global partners deserve transparency.
I urge you to demand accountability on this issue and ensure that our government’s actions reflect a clear commitment to supporting Ukraine, not aiding Putin’s regime.
