Boycott the State of the Union Address! Hold a state-wide town hall instead!

Thank you for the work you are doing to represent the citizens of our great state in Congress. I am writing you now to urgently ask you to boycott the State of the Union Address, and to hold a joint virtual town hall meeting with the other US Congresspeople from our state on the evening of March 4, 2025. We are tired of hearing from President Trump and Elon Musk. We want to hear from YOU, directly, about what YOU are doing to prevent this nation’s descent into tyranny. Within a matter of weeks, through a series of unlawful actions, President Trump, his unauthorized DOGE lackeys, and his woefully underqualified cabinet secretaries have succeeded in dismantling the practical systems of government that acts of Congress have put in place. Tens of thousands of essential federal workers have been shocked to be unceremoniously laid off despite their years of work and dedication to make this country great. Those civil servants who remain are being tortured weekly with gratuitous threats of termination. If immediate action is not taken, in the weeks to come we will surely see a descent into authoritarianism that has never before been seen in this country. The courts are moving too slowly to address the many illegal directives. Even if and when Federal and Supreme Court decisions do uphold the Constitution, the President and executive branch are not showing any indication that they will honor the decisions of the courts. The rule of law and America’s system of checks and balances are in jeopardy. You need to do a better job of communicating directly with your constituents, all across our state. We need you to explain your actions and intentions, especially when the much more effective measure of impeachment is authorized by our Constitution. We want to know: how are you working with the other members of Congress to move impeachment forward successfully? More than anything, we need your reassurance that you are on top of this dire situation and are doing everything you can to win Republicans over to the side of patriotism and sanity. We need to hear from you, and the time for tiptoeing around decorum has passed! A joint virtual town hall is the best way for you to communicate directly to the citizens of this state. Holding this town hall on the night of the State of the Union Address will divert attention away from Trump’s self-serving speech and shift focus to the will of the people. You can follow Senator Wyden‘s lead and create a virtual suggestion box to gather citizens’ questions, that you can then field during the meeting. I look forward to hearing what you have to say.
