I’m writing as a Californian who cares deeply about the health of our forests, our climate, and our future. I strongly urge you to vote NO on the so-called SAVE Our Forest Act.
This bill is deeply misleading in name. Rather than protecting forests, it undermines the very principles of science-based conservation by promoting increased logging, fast-tracked approvals, and reduced oversight — all at the expense of biodiversity, carbon storage, and ecosystem resilience.
California knows firsthand the devastating impacts of climate change and poor forest management. Real solutions should include investments in ecological forest restoration, Indigenous-led stewardship, and climate-smart fire resilience — not policies that open the door to industrial-scale logging under the guise of forest health.
This bill poses a direct threat to:
• Carbon sequestration: Intact forests store immense amounts of carbon. Logging undermines this crucial climate buffer.
• Biodiversity: Accelerated logging increases habitat fragmentation and loss of critical species.
• Water security: Forest degradation harms watersheds that supply millions of Californians.
• Wildfire risks: Logging often increases flammable debris and road access, not the long-term fire safety we need.
Please vote no. Protect our forests — not just from fire, but from exploitation.
