Re: 12/13/21 January 6 Committee meeting to charge Mark Meadows with contempt of Congress
"Did Donald Trump, through action or inaction, corruptly seek to obstruct or impede Congress’s proceedings?"
At long last, a brave GOP voice has asked the obvious question. Liz Cheney showed America last night what true bravery looks like.
It was a marvel to behold.
This was reality-TV we needed to see. It was riveting. Disclosures of so many damning texts. Frightened by the violence they helped unleash. Pleading with Mr. Trump to make it stop.
Exposure of the hypocrisy of all of the folks who now wonder what the big deal is with January 6. I would love to be a fly on the wall at Fox today.
Hypocrisy exposed at this level is so gratifying.
And I expect a lot of blood pressure has been raised in your ranks as we await the names of those unnamed GOP lawmakers who expressed sympathy for the insurrection. In writing. Blatantly. Supportively.
One lawmaker texted Meadows: “On January 6, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence, as President of the Senate, should call out all electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all.”
A message from a lawmaker the next day read: “Yesterday was a terrible day. We tried everything we could in our objection to the 6 states. I’m sorry nothing worked.”
These are folks who took an oath to the country? Which country? Because it couldn’t have been to America.
They should be worried. And not allowed anywhere near public office ever again.
I would hope at this point, given all the evidence we’ve seen thus far, which I’m sure is only the tip of a giant iceberg, that any sanity left in your ranks is reevaluating alignment with a president and the people who tried to subvert democracy before, during, and after January 6.
The tide is turning as we hoped it would. Now is the time for you to be as brave as Ms. Cheney.
