It is time to stop glorifying our shameful past. To celebrate Confederate Memorial Day is to celebrate insurrectionists who wanted to preserve the right to own slaves. South Carolina needs to repeal this state holiday and denounce honoring the Confederacy in any way. Memorializing the Confederacy is a celebration of white supremacy. South Carolina needs to move into the 21st century and stop clinging to the losing side of a war from the 19th century.
