An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Stop Congress from Deregulating AI

24 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I am writing to urge you to OPPOSE a provision to the NDAA that would preempt state and local laws governing artificial intelligence (AI). Americans were clear the last time this terrible idea was considered, and the AI Moratorium was stripped out of Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill" by the Senate in a 99-1 vote. Americans have only become more skeptical of AI since then. Since Congress has been unable to pass meaningful regulations, this preemption would essentially create a wild west where corporations could unleash AI technology without oversight or accountability. The record to date shows that they are not prioritizing safety, privacy, or data security—but rather rushing to maximize corporate profit at any price to the rest of us. It is irresponsible and dangerous to consider deregulating this industry and allowing massive tech companies to operate with near-complete impunity. Please VOTE NO on any bill that includes a preemption for state and local AI regulation.
