End AIPAC Influence & Super PAC Corruption of Our Democracy
32 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!
I am a long-time constituent and voter in your district writing to express serious concern about the influence of Super PACs — particularly AIPAC — on our democratic process. I am urging you to take immediate and meaningful action.
Recent reporting confirms that AIPAC spent approximately $19 million in the Chicago-area congressional primaries alone, successfully unseating progressive representatives like Jamaal Bowman (New York) and Cori Bush (Missouri) — lawmakers who were reflecting the genuine views of their constituents. Regardless of one’s foreign policy position, the ability of any outside organization — especially one with demonstrable ties to a foreign government — to spend that kind of money to determine who represents American voters is a direct threat to our democracy.
This raises a critical legal question: Why is AIPAC not required to register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA)? Foreign nationals are prohibited from donating directly to American campaigns, yet foreign-influenced Super PACs can spend unlimited, often untracked money to shape our elections. This contradiction must be addressed.
Super PACs undermine the foundational principle that elected officials represent the people who elected them. When a campaign is substantially funded by outside interests, a representative’s loyalty becomes divided — whether they intend it or not. Any legislator who accepts PAC money is no longer solely accountable to their constituents.
I respectfully urge you to take the following concrete actions:
1. Support legislation prohibiting sitting legislators from attending AIPAC fundraising events, conferences, or policy sessions while in office.
2. Co-sponsor the DISCLOSE Act and the For the People Act (HR1) to limit the influence of outside money — domestic and foreign-influenced alike — on federal elections.
3. Call for a review of AIPAC’s exemption from FARA registration requirements.
4. Champion full transparency in campaign finance so constituents know exactly who is funding their representatives’ campaigns.
5. Publicly commit to refusing Super PAC contributions and representing the people of this district — not the interests of wealthy donors or foreign-aligned organizations.
I share these concerns with many of my neighbors, and I can tell you that how you respond to this issue will weigh heavily on our voting decisions going forward.
I would appreciate a written response outlining your current position on Super PAC reform and the specific steps you are willing to take. Silence on this matter is itself an answer your constituents will remember.
Thank you for your time and your service to this district.
