The fight for D.C. statehood is not just a fight for D.C. residents -- it's a fight for Justice for all of us.
Why? Because D.C. statehood is a necessary step in our nationwide journey towards racial justice and equality. D.C.'s 712,000 residents, most of them Black or Brown, don't have voting representation in Congress or the ability to independently pass their own laws or budgets. Instead, they are subject to the political whims of Congresspeople from across the country. D.C. residents deserve a real voice in Congress and in their local government. I'm asking you to sponsor or co-sponsor legislation to make DC a state and give those hundreds of thousands of residents a voice over their own lives just like the rest of us have. I know there are issues regarding federal property. Federal property exists in almost every state in the union and those issues can be worked out.
Don't allow anyone's efforts to deprive a majority African-American area their full American rights.
