An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Texas only)
ONLY LOSERS CHEAT. WE SUPPORT REP. COLLIER
2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
You know how Republicans, by always drawing attention to things that they assure us are dangerous radical or liberal bias, end up making us all focus on the reality and generally replying HELL NO?
Well, you’ve done it again. Now the country, and no doubt some portion of the world, has its eyes on Texas. For all the wrong reasons. Again.
After fleeing Texas to prevent the Republican majority from abusing their power by stealing, I mean legally gerrymandering, 5 Democratic districts to turn them red, Dems returned back home this past weekend. But daddy is still mad so he’s making sure they’re grounded until Wednesday, when the next vote is scheduled to basically dissolve some of their own districts.
A House Democrat was confined in the Capitol overnight after she refused a police escort that Republican leaders imposed on lawmakers who participated in the two-week walkout.
Rep. Nicole Collier (D-Fort Worth, declined on Monday afternoon to sign a slip giving her permission from Speaker Dustin Burrows, to leave the House floor with a state law enforcement officer shadowing her.
“I refuse to sign away my dignity as a duly elected representative just so Republicans can control my movements and monitor me with police escorts,” Collier said in a statement Monday. “When I press that button to vote, I know these maps will harm my constituents — I won’t just go along quietly with their intimidation or their discrimination.”
“They exercised control, and they tell us we can’t leave unless we do exactly what they say,” Collier said in a video Monday. “We’ve had enough. We’ve had enough of them taking all of our rights away, and so I’ve taken a stand. I’m pushing back.”
And a small number of peaceful protestors were arrested by a flotilla of DPS. I hope Austin is revved up and headed to the Capitol.
It may be good to be king today. But nothing lasts forever. Even Republican rule in Texas.
And y’all are doing everything you can to make certain of that.
I hope Ms. Collier runs for Governor.
