Today I’m writing in support of S. 641, recently introduced, that would amend the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act to allow for personal importation of safe and affordable prescription drugs from Canada.
We all know the exorbitant costs of prescription drugs in the United States. This makes it hard for individuals and families to afford some drugs, because Americans are forced to pay more than twice the prices for brand-name medications compared to our neighbors in Canada.
The current system heavily favors the interests of major pharmaceutical corporations at the expense of ordinary citizens. It is imperative that we prioritize the well-being of the American people over corporate profiteering.
This problem hits poor and fixed-income people, and whatever the drug commercials say, these drugs are huge profit centers for the companies that advertise them.
Instead of continuing on this course, allowing Americans to safely access lower-cost medications from licensed Canadian pharmacies, this bill promises to alleviate some of the financial strain on households grappling with high drug costs.
The Safe and Affordable Drugs from Canada Act represents a crucial step towards ensuring that essential medications are accessible and affordable for all. Please support and vote YES on S. 641. Thank you.
