Annul the Monroe Doctrine with H.Res.1056 - US Foreign Policy Must Change Now

I am writing to urge you to immediately support H.Res. 1056, which calls for formally annulling the Monroe Doctrine and establishing a “New Good Neighbor” policy toward Latin America and the Caribbean. For more than 200 years, the Monroe Doctrine has served as a justification for U.S. interventionism in the Western Hemisphere. While often framed as protective, it has too frequently enabled political interference, economic coercion, and destabilizing involvement in the internal affairs of sovereign nations. This legacy has contributed to mistrust, weakened democratic institutions, and long-term instability across the region. The resolution calls for formally declaring the Monroe Doctrine no longer U.S. policy and directing the development of a foreign policy rooted in mutual respect, shared prosperity, and cooperation.
