Demand a Real Investigation Into the ICE Killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti

Open a full criminal investigation into the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis. What DOJ has offered so far is not accountability — it's theater. Describing the Pretti probe as a "look under the hood" rather than a real criminal investigation, and staffing it with inexperienced new hires, signals that the administration has no intention of pursuing justice.
The obstruction here is staggering. The FBI seized Good's car before state investigators could examine it. Federal officials froze out Minnesota BCA and Hennepin County law enforcement entirely. DOJ's Civil Rights Division refused to investigate the agent who shot Good — and instead looked into investigating her widow. Six federal prosecutors and an FBI agent resigned in protest. Meanwhile, VP Vance declared the shooter had "absolute immunity," and Stephen Miller told all ICE officers they have "federal immunity in the conduct of their duties." That is not a legal standard. That is a license to kill.
Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty is doing the work your federal colleagues are refusing to do — filing criminal charges against ICE agent Christian Castro, investigating over 30 cases of federal abuse, and suing to access shielded materials. Congress needs to back her up. Demand that DOJ appoint independent prosecutors with actual civil-rights expertise, stop obstructing state investigations, and hand over all materials related to both killings. These were people. They deserve more than a whitewash.
