An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Protect Free Speech Now!

14 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I want to express my serious concern about the recent suspension of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" by ABC, after Kimmel made remarks criticizing how some political leaders reacted to the killing of Charlie Kirk. The show was suspended indefinitely following warnings of possible regulatory consequences for ABC by FCC Chair Brendan Carr.  President Trump is further threatening to take away the licenses of stations that criticize him. This marks a significant step towards authoritarianism.  Protecting free speech is critical to our democracy. When the President and a government regulator threaten media organizations with possible legal repercussions based on the content of their programming, it creates a chilling effect that undermines First Amendment protections for everyone. Please demand that the FCC refrain from using its regulatory power to pressure broadcasters over protected speech. Media outlets of all political persuasions should remain free to air dissenting and critical viewpoints, without fear political retaliation. Our freedom of speech depends on it.  Thank you.
