An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Restore CDC data collection funds to protect public health

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

As a physician, I cannot overstate the severity of discontinuing critical data collection programs overseen by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This decision leaves us flying blind when it comes to monitoring and addressing significant public health issues like abortion access, cancer screening rates, HIV testing figures, and more. Without reliable data, policymakers and healthcare providers are unable to detect emerging threats or discern evolving trends. Such an information blackout threatens to undermine decades of hard-won progress in safeguarding the wellbeing of all Americans. Robust public health surveillance is absolutely vital for early detection of issues, effective interventions, and ultimately saving lives. I urge you to fully restore funding for the CDC's core data collection activities to uphold our nation's commitment to promoting science-based policies that protect public health.
