Block SignalTrace Surveillance Before It Becomes Standard Practice

Stop the rollout of SignalTrace to law enforcement and government agencies now. This technology, developed by defense contractor Leonardo, doesn't just read license plates — it simultaneously scrapes unique identifiers from every phone, wearable, AirTag, and even pet microchip within range, linking vehicles to the specific individuals inside them. That is warrantless mass surveillance, and it has no place in a free society.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation already documented that traditional license plate readers alone are enough to map a person's pattern of life and identify their associates. SignalTrace makes that exponentially worse, and there is no way to opt out. Leonardo's disclaimer that it "captures device frequencies emitted into the air" without decrypting content is a legal dodge, not a privacy protection. The Fourth Amendment does not have a loophole for passive data harvesting.
This is a constitutional crisis waiting to happen. I need you to act — introduce or co-sponsor legislation banning the use of SignalTrace and similar multi-sensor surveillance systems by government agencies, and block any public funding from going toward their procurement. The time to draw this line is before the infrastructure is in place, not after.
