Why Is the Jan. 6 Plaque Still in a Basement? On January 6, 2021, brave police officers protected the U.S. Capitol during a violent attack. Afterward, Congress voted to honor those officers with a special plaque. But that plaque isn’t on display. It’s sitting in a basement closet, surrounded by tools. That’s not right. The officers who stood up for democracy should be remembered. Some were hurt. Some died. They deserve respect. So why is the plaque still hidden? Because Speaker of the House Mike Johnson hasn’t told the Architect of the Capitol to put it up. That’s all it would take. One order. But he hasn’t done it. We should all ask: What’s the delay? Please speak up. Tell Speaker Johnson to do the right thing. Put up the plaque and honor the officers who protected our country.
