I am writing to urge you to support concrete action to rein in ICE brutality and overreach.
Congress should rally around proposals already on the table, including those from Sen. Chris Murphy and Reps. Ro Khanna and Jasmine Crockett, to condition ICE funding on real accountability. At a minimum, this must include increased oversight and clear requirements that ICE agents obtain warrants, wear body cameras, refrain from masking their identities, and stop using force indiscriminately.
These are not radical demands. They are basic standards consistent with the rule of law, civil liberties, and democratic accountability. Allowing a federal law-enforcement agency to operate with minimal oversight, concealed identities, and unchecked force undermines public trust and invites abuse and erodes constitutional protections for everyone, not just immigrants.
Those who enable or excuse these abuses should be forced to choose: stand up for constitutional governance or face the consequences at the ballot box.
Silence or half-measures are no longer acceptable. Congress has both the authority and the obligation to act.
I expect you to support strong oversight and funding conditions that bring ICE back under meaningful democratic control.
