An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Condemn Pardons for January 6th Attack on Democracy

328 so far! Help us get to 500 signers!

According to an Ipsos poll, only 30% of Americans support pardoning those involved in the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. Pardoning the participants goes against the overwhelming majority view and severely undermines faith in our democratic institutions and the rule of law. This blatant abuse of presidential pardon power to excuse those who engaged in an insurrectionist riot must be forcefully condemned. The violent attempt to overturn the 2020 election results represented an assault on the foundations of American democracy itself. Pardoning this criminal conduct sends a dangerous message of impunity that threatens to further erode democratic norms and principles.
